Unexamined Assumptions

Unexamined Assumptions
Assuming that we can't
We can't do
We can't believe
We can't be kind
We can't understand
We can't try
We can't change
We can't love
We can't feel
We can't cry
Assuming that others can't
Can't believe
Can't love
Can't be kind
Can't trust
Can't change
Can't feel
Can't work hard
Can't do their best, or do as good as you
Assuming that we are
We are too weak
We are too small
We are too quiet to make a difference
That we aren't strong enough to do it
Assuming that others are mean
Selfish
Smelly
Different than ourselves
Assuming that it is too hot
Too cold
Too hard
Too long
Impossible
Unexamined

Did you write this? It is just DANG good.

Thanks, yes I did write it. I was walking around campus the other day and I saw a poster and it just said, "Unexamined Assumptions", and it just got me to thinking, this is the result. Thanks for the compliment.

I agree that it is very good.

One that I would not add, because adding to a creation makes it someone else's, but I would bring to the table is...
assuming that there is something wrong with being different from ourselves.

I often find others and I admit sometimes myself thinking that because something is different it is not as good. Mostly I'm referring to family patterns and human development (my current realm of study). For example: The practice of a family bed. This is when an entire family sleeps in the same bed. There has been a lot of talk lately about this practice, and though it is not for me, I can see some of the benefits and how it fits well into some cultures.

Alanis once said,

"Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face

Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder

How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet

Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud

I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him, compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem...why are you crying

Be a good boy
Push a little farther now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect."

She sang her unexamined assumptions and look at her now.

Thank you Cody, for reminding me the unexamined life is not worth living.
love you, Jackie
